WHAT IS THE RAPID RESPONSE NETWORK (RRN)? |
| These are daily realities in Central America and Colombia. Victims and their families tell us how grateful they are that the abuses are no longer happening in the dark. There is hope not only that the perpetrators will be brought to justice, but that these crimes will no longer be tolerated. |
| Thousands have been “disappeared” throughout Latin America. They are labor leaders, peasant organizers, teachers, students, church workers, and health promoters. Often they are people whose “crime” was to speak out against army brutality and in defense of basic rights. |
| The InterReligious Task Force on Central America regularly responds to human rights alerts in Central America and Colombia. |

“Let me tell you from the bottom of my heart how grateful I am to all of you who... [fight] for the respect of life and of the universal rights of societies around the world. …I am still alive today. I will never forget the people who supported me and my organization... Finally, I would like to urge you not to become discouraged in your work to help men and women who raise their voices in protest to support their people.” |
| Coronado Avila of Colombia, one year after a RRN letter was written on his behalf. |
