Ask your Rep to Co-sponsor H.R. 1299 The Berta Cáceres Human Rights in Honduras Act

In response to Berta’s assassination, last year 52 Representatives co-sponsored the Berta Cáceres Human Rights in Honduras Act in the House, with immediate and broad support, including from the AFL-CIO, the Sierra Club, Witness for Peace, and over a hundred other faith, labor, environmental, and human rights organizations. Berta's family and organization COPINH immediately applauded the action and praised the leadership of these Members of Congress. And the bill has just been reintroduced in this new Congress, under the bill number H.R. 1299.

Call your Representative NOW, ask to speak with their Foreign Policy Aide, and urge them to co-sponsor the newly re-introduced Berta Cáceres Act, H.R. 1299, calling for the suspension of U.S. military and police aid to Honduras until human rights violations committed by Honduran security forces cease and their perpetrators are brought to justice.

Please call me this week at (your phone number) to let me know if she/he has seen H.R. 1299, and if Rep. _____ will sign it.”

The Berta Cáceres Act, H.R. 1299, represents a historic opportunity to send a strong message that the U.S. will stop aiding security forces, such as Honduras', which commit human rights abuses. We ask you to join us in standing with Berta's family, COPINH, and other inspiring Honduran human rights defenders by doing everything we can to push for this legislation, to immediately suspend all U.S. "security" aid to Honduras. Please call your Representative, asking to speak with their Foreign Policy Aide, and ask them to support H.R. 1299 NOW.
