Join the IRTF Election Observer Mission for the upcoming presidential election in El Salvador

The purpose of this delegation is
1- to contribute to free and fair elections
2- to generate a safe environment to stimulate democratic participation
3- to observe and inform about the implementation of election reforms
4- to deepen understanding of the social and economic structures that govern
and impact the country
5- to promote people-to-people solidarity
The election observers will
-meet with political parties and government offices
-visit communities to better understand the everyday reality for Salvadorans
-be trained and receive certification as observers by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal
Spanish language ability is not required.

Travel: IRTF will work with delegates to coordinate air travel. CIS, our partner in San Salvador, requests that we arrive by mid-day on January 28 in order to be present for the full orientation. The election is February 3. We plan to stay until the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 5, in order to participate in a morning press conference to relate our observer findings to the media.
NOTE: If none of the candidates receives more than 50% of the popular vote, there will be a second delegation Mar 4-12 for the run-off election on March 10. Please inquire with IRTF by Feb 10.
