Film description:

Along the Texas-Mexico border, documentarian Robie Flores finds herself at her own personal crossing, one between past and present. As she returns to her hometown to grieve her late brother, she cinematically recalls her own upbringing while in search of meaning in memory and loss.

Growing up, Robie Flores always dreamed of making films with her brother, Marcelo. But after his unexpected death, all she has left of him is his camera and old hard drives, which she pours through earnestly in her grief. On her quest to connect with her departed brother, Flores ventures back to her hometown on the US/Mexico border, a town she was once eager to leave. Now she finds herself desperate to return, in search of her childhood memories and looking for a way to feel Marcelo’s presence. Struggling to find her place between the past and the present, Flores turns the camera on everyday people doing all the things she used to do growing up, from attending football games to quinceaneras, and everything in between, capturing the essence of her own history in the process. Lyrical, dynamic, and deeply moving, THE IN BETWEEN is a profoundly personal documentary that transports viewers through time, exploring nostalgia, longing, and loss. —G.S.
