Colombia: We condemn sexual violence committed by police

Thank you Christian Peacemakers Team for this statement

From the anti-militarism movement of which we are a part, we denounce the sexual violence committed by members of the Anti-riot police that also caused a young woman to commit suicide.

WE CONDEMN THE SEXUAL VIOLENCE COMMITTED BY MEMBERS OF THE COLOMBIAN POLICE

From the anti-militarism movement in Colombia, we reject with deep pain and anger the cruel and "sobering" method of rape that the police and the Army continue to use against us as women.

On May 13, a young minor took her life after being arbitrarily detained and sexually assaulted the night before by police personnel at the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) of Popayán.

We raise our voices in outrage at the systematic sexual and gender violence carried out by the Army and the Public Force members. These violations are a serious expression of patriarchal violence exercised under the power of an institutional armed actor, which legalizes and legitimizes the idea that power is exercised over the bodies of women, teenagers, and girls. Becoming targets of war.

For the demilitarization of life and bodies, against war and always in opposition to all forms of violence, WE RESIST YOUR BULLETS, BY NOT FORGETTING!
