Promesas cumplidas a medias

In Tegucigalpa and 2022 the most violent place and year against the LGTBIQ+ community

TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS (CONEXIHON),- A monthly count for the year 2022 reveals that between January and December, 42 members of the LGTBIQ+ community were murdered in the city of Tegucigalpa, Central District; capital of Honduras, according to the Human Rights Observatory made up of Kukulcán, Awilix and Ixchel, (KAI).

Other data, in the last 18 years, recorded by this observatory, highlights that the executions, in Tegucigalpa, were carried out with firearms and against gay men. In addition, 80 percent of these murders go unpunished and only 11 percent of cases are investigated, say the organizations that make up the Human Rights Observatory.

Other kind of violence

According to this observatory, some 155 people reported attacks ranging from threats, police persecution and physical attacks, therefore the murders constitute the highest degree of violence, "And they are the most extreme acts of a long chain of abuses against the members of the LGTBIQ+ community in the country and that on many occasions they are accepted and minimized”, KAI said.

Half-fulfilled promises

Regarding the government actions presided over by Mrs. Xiomara Castro, on the protection of this community of LGTBIQ+ people in the country, "they are in debt," says the report presented by this Human Rights Observatory. The campaign promises of the current government, for that matter and one of the most important to include in the National Curriculum; sex education classes that guide minors about sexual diversity from a non-binary point of view, is still pending "in fact, an announcement was not even allowed on the State channel to talk about the existence of non-binary preferences, he says The document.

Finally, KAI indicates that in some cases they are excluded from the issues that concern the LGTBIQ+ community, for example "it was not included in the process to guarantee the sentence that condemned Honduras for the murder of Vicky Hernández", concludes the observatory.
